GLOBAL EXCLUSIVE: HOOD BY AIR x CORGI ARRIVES AT SELFRIDGES
One of the most talked-about menswear collaborations of the year arrives on the shop floor today.
Unveiled at Selfridges in June as part of London Collections: Men, Hood by Air’s unexpected and ingenious partnership with heritage British label Corgi results in a limited-edition ten piece capsule collection conceived by the Selfridges Buying team.
Housed within the Men’s Contemporary space on 1, the range offers a subversive take on knitwear and references school uniforms, cross- dressing club kids and surfers – described by designer Shayne Oliver as “what beach bums wear when the sun goes down.” Oversized hockey jerseys, cage sweats with cutaway panels and vests layered over jumpers emblazoned with the label’s statement HBA logo are realised in black, white, navy blue and burgundy. Whilst the conception comes courtesy of New York, realisation took place via Wales in Corgi’s 120-year-old factory.
The collection was first seen in an incredible presentation which saw Selfridges’ car park transformed into a skate-park come- nightclub, in the first official UK showcase by the much-hyped New York streetwear powerhouse.
US creative collective #Been #Trill played a set including UK previews of album tracks from Kanye West’s Yeezus to a crowd including Brooke Candy, Mademoiselle Yulia and Tommy Ton. Models emerged through a half-pipe, amidst dynamic performances from skaters who were street-cast in London’s skate parks.
