NIKELAB PARTNERS WITH STONE ISLAND TO DELIVER A UNIQUE INTERPRETATION OF IT’S FOREMOST APPAREL ICON, TO CELEBRATE THE BEGINNING OF “THE YEAR OF WINDRUNNER”.
The Nike Windrunner was born during a time of firsts. Created by Nike’s first apparel designer in 1978 and revolutionary for its raglan sleeves and 26-degree chevron yoke, the jacket became the first piece of Nike apparel worn by athletes at track and field trials before and after competition. Today, to commemorate this running icon, the Nike Windrunner experiences another first, the fabric innovation, the engineering and garment dyeing techniques of Stone Island.
In 2016 Nike is celebrating its foremost apparel icon: the Nike Windrunner Jacket. Designed in the late ‘70s, the silhouette has been a fixture on medal stands and city streets ever since — seen on everyone from distance runners to spinning b-boys. In the launch edition of this yearlong celebration Nike and Stone Island merge the distinctiveness of two brands to create a unique garment.
The chevron and hood of the NikeLab x Stone Island Windrunner are constructed with water and wind-resistant Mussola Gommata fabric, formed by bonding lightweight cotton muslin to an opaque polyurethane film. Nylon Metal, a proprietary Stone Island fabric with a metallic sheen, is featured on the body of the garment, which is lined with PrimaLoft®.
While the exterior of the jacket is monochromatic, it mimics the traditional Nike Windrunner color blocking through Stone Island’s garment dyeing process. The result is a subtle distinction between the shades of the Mussola Gommata and Nylon Metal fabrics.
The collaboration also includes a special make up of the Nike Koth Ultra Mid SI sneaker-hiker hybrid.
The NikeLab x Stone Island co-lab will be available on December 17th at Stone Island flagship stores*, Stoneisland.com, at selected NikeLab retailers and on nike.com/nikelab.

401N1 MUSSOLA GOMMATA/NYLON METAL
The NikeLab x Stone Island Windrunner is constructed from two of the most iconic Stone Island fabrics.
Mussola Gommata is the outcome of the purest Stone Island research. This exclusive fabric is achieved by bonding extremely light cotton muslin to an opaque polyurethane film. The polyurethane film makes the fabric water and wind resistant.
Nylon Metal: The trilobate structure of the nylon yarn and the grey weft/white warp colors, are the grounds of its distinctive metallic and iridescent sheen when garment dyed. The material is resin treated inside for light water and wind resistance.
Specific double dye formulas of the finished garment provide a unique depth of colour to pieces made in these two special materials as well as to their textile accessories. The addition of a special agent to the dye formula makes the piece anti-drop.
PrimaLoft® Insulation Technology. The NikeLab x Stone Island Windrunner is padded with a PrimaLoft® ® substrate, an exclusive blend of ultra-small multi diameter fibers creating millions of air pockets resulting in lightweight superior thermal performance. The fine fibers, specifically treated, create a water resistant light and breathable insulating structure. Their multi diameter construction enables enhanced packability.
Style features: Drawstring hood. Herringbone nylon tape on chevron yoke. Diagonal pockets with zip fastening hidden by nylon tape. Rounded bottom hem, longer on back. Zip fastening.
